This blog marks the end of my semester with you Lucas and I wanted to let you know how much fun I’ve had in your class. Easily in my top 3 favorite classes I’ve ever taken and that was mainly because you made it so entertaining. Working with Unity was the most difficult out of all the programs we used. The main class in which you went over the basics of unity, I had missed because my canopy decided to take flight. However, with the help of Google I was able to figure some of the problems I dealt with. The only problem I took a while to figure out was how to control the movements of the game with the arrow keys. I did, however, make a script and attached it to the camera. Now, the game could be played in first person. Building the city was quite fun as
it brought back memories from back when I played Minecraft and Sims.

I started off the world with a simple plane and expanded it thoroughly, so that I’d be able to fit all the components in it. When I first started I was kind of getting used to the mechanics of Unity and was struggling to rotate the camera and move around. I decided to a connect a mouse to my laptop, and that made everything so much easier.

This second picture is what I thought would’ve been my final project, but the colors were looking a bit weird. I changed a couple things like light intensity and the color schemes, so that it was all easier to look at. I also fixed some of the buildings up by adding blocks inside of them so that the user wouldn’t actually be able to walk through the buildings and cars. Once I put this all together this is what my final map ended up looking like.

As you can see from the final picture of the map, I added a sky in the background, so it’s not a pit of emptiness at the edges. I also put a forest in the corner for some aesthetic to fill out the areas a bit more. The final step was adding some of the decorations, such as the light posts, fire hydrants, benches, and trash cans. Once I completed this all, I let my brother try out the game. Below is the video of him trying it out.
